The Bronx is one of New York City’s most underserved renovation markets and one of the most active. Property owners across Riverdale, Pelham Bay, Mott Haven, and the Grand Concourse are investing in their homes and multi-family properties, and the demand for contractors who actually know Bronx building stock and show up to do the work properly is real.
Multi Construction Co. renovates Bronx properties, including single-family homes, two- and three-family houses, pre-war apartment buildings, and commercial spaces with the same standards, licensing, and execution process we bring to every borough.
The Bronx has more housing variety than most people outside the borough realize. Riverdale has detached single-family homes and mid-rise co-ops that feel closer to Westchester than the South Bronx. Pelham Bay and Throgs Neck have semi-detached row houses and two-family homes that have been in the same families for generations. Mott Haven and the South Bronx have pre-war tenement buildings undergoing full gut renovations as the neighborhood changes. The Grand Concourse is lined with Art Deco apartment buildings from the 1920s and 1930s that are structurally excellent but need full systems overhauls.
Two and three-family homes are the dominant property type across much of the Bronx. Most owners live in one unit and rent the others. That means renovation decisions are also investment decisions the kitchen in the rental unit needs to be durable and functional, not just attractive. The owner’s unit needs to reflect how the family actually lives. We scope these projects differently because the goals are different floor by floor.
Pre-war apartment and tenement buildings in the South Bronx and along the Grand Concourse have original cast iron or galvanized plumbing, aging electrical systems, and decades of deferred maintenance layered on top of structurally sound masonry construction. Full gut renovations in these buildings require asbestos assessment before demolition, systematic plumbing and electrical replacement, and careful coordination with occupied units in the building.
Bronx homes built in the 1940s through 1960s row houses and semi-detached properties throughout Norwood, Woodlawn, and Morris Park share the aging infrastructure characteristics of similarly aged Queens housing: corroded galvanized plumbing, undersized electrical panels, and bathrooms and kitchens that have not been touched in thirty years. Full renovation of these spaces often uncovers conditions that require systems upgrades alongside the visible work.
NYC DOB permits apply in the Bronx exactly as they do in every other borough. Structural work, plumbing modifications, electrical upgrades, and basement conversions all require permit filings. We handle permit filing and inspection coordination on every applicable project.
Multi Construction Co. assesses every Bronx property on its actual conditions before writing a scope, not on what the renovation looks like from the surface.
"It is more than a passion project. It is more than a creative vision realized. It is Multi."

GOOD Based on 36 reviews Posted on Blossom E.Verified I would highly recommend Shafayet and his team at Multi Construction. The job was an extensive gut and renovation of a 100+ year old five story building. The work included structural work to repair / replace old decaying beams and to add new support beams. The work included the relocation of 2 full new kitchens; all new internal plumbing; an upgraded electrical system; and the installation of split air conditioning systems throughout all 5 floors. The millwork / finishing / painting done by his team were meticulous, and we ended up 2 beautiful new apartments - a triplex with 2 bedrooms 2 baths, and a duplex with 2 bedrooms / 2 baths. Shafayet was always responsive to our inquiries / requests and provided solutions to the many problems that were encountered in a project of this size. He also coordinated well with the architect and third party vendors that were involved in this project too. His bid for the job was very reasonable compared to the bids of 4 other general contractors. Great value overall!Posted on Ioanis P.Verified Shafayet gave a prompt and detailed estimate for a fairly big painting job. His crew did very good work, they showed up on time every day and even came on a weekend to complete the job. That was extremely helpful to me. Highly recommend their services.Posted on Marlene S.Verified Our brownstone coop hired Multi to paint the building and repair the wooden molding. Their price was competitive , but what really made us appreciate Multi was that they always did what they said. Their hands-on owner, Shafayet, was responsive and fully transparent, and even asked for a meeting when he sensed a disconnect regarding our expectations and the treatment we chose. For credibility we might say that his people are skilled, but that it's important to take care to monitor scaffolding people, whom Multi doesn't directly supervise. In our view he turned out to be exactly what we were hoping to find -- instead of IBM, a local, smallish outfit that led with scrappiness and responsiveness. Highly recommendedPosted on Gavin R.Verified Shafayet is prompt, professional, knowledgeable, and receptive. He clearly understand my emergency situation and did a fantastic job meeting my deadline. I can say with confidence, that you will be satisfied with Shafayet and his team.Posted on Amy G.Verified Multi construction did an amazing job on an interior job in our living room. The price was very competitive, they came in on budget and on time, the workers were highly skilled and the final project was great. I would recommend them without hesitation.Posted on Ian A.Verified Multi Construction completed a gut renovation of our home that had not been renovated since the 1960s. Shafayet and his crew did a truly amazing job, and I am so thankful for all their time, care, and commitment to making our house special and beautiful. This was a big job. We installed 2 new kitchens, 2 new bathrooms, rebuilt the back wall of our house to add large windows, added a deck, skylights, and a bunch of other things in between. At every step, Shafayet worked hard to make sure the house turned out perfectly. I have nothing but the best things to say about our new home and the care Multi put in to make it right. For this type of work, we received bids from a number of different people. Multi priced everything very competitively and they are very transparent on costs for change orders. I recommend them highly, and I will be sending friends to them for years to come!Posted on Holly K.Verified We have truly nothing but the best things to say about our partnership with Shafayet and our finished kitchen. The entire process was smooth from start to finish and I never experienced one ounce of unprofessionalism from Shafayet or ANYONE on his team. In fact, in many instances, Shafayet and his team went above and beyond what we asked of them with no battles or complaints. Some details: *Shafayet employs skilled, honest, confident and respectful PROFESSIONALS. We were warned when we received Shafayet's quote that 1-2 guys would be doing ALL the work (demo, plumbing, painting, electrical, etc.). That is NOT the case at all. Anthony, who installed our cabinets, puts his heart and soul into the work, and it was not a clearcut, easy job. He will not put in a single screw until he knows it's perfect or can explain any issues he may foresee. Anthony never cut a corner. And Glenn, the electrician, is one of the nicest human beings I've met, but also a really skilled electrician. He knows what he has to do to get the job done, which ultimately makes you feel like you're in good hands. *Shafayet is a busy guy but always responded to my calls and my texts in a timely manner. A renovation is stressful enough, I can't imagine the added stress of not being able to communicate with your GC (and trust me, we had that with other vendors - unrelated to Multi Construction Co- during this renovation). *Shafayet is flexible. I told Shafayet from the beginning that I had my own painter and wallpaper-er. He was fine with that. Many of GCs we interviewed said it had to be their whole team or they wouldn't do it. I can see the efficiencies of having one team for the whole project, but Shafayet put that aside to please us. *Shafayet keeps a close eye on all of his projects and delegates appropriately. Shafayet was not in our home every single day, but he was always there on important days and he would check in on progress every few days. He holds his guys to a high standard of quality in their work. *The best way to build a relationship with Shafayet is to simply treat him the way you want to be treated. I have read some of the poor reviews on Yelp here and can honestly say I do not share one iota of their experience. I'm not sure if they approached Shafayet in a manner that quickly put him on the defense or he felt was condescending. But I felt and I believe Shafayet felt that we were on equal ground and that made our working relationship successful. I treated all my interactions with him with respect and I feel he did the same back. I would be thrilled to work with Shafayet and his team again and highly recommend him for other jobs.Posted on David B.Verified CHRIS came the very next morning and got me up and running!!! Quick and efficient ... in and out!!! Replaced some parts and the price was reasonable ... I would definitely call the for future problems... but hopefully won't have to...
The Multi Construction Co. Advantage
01
Single-family homes, two and three-family houses, pre-war apartment buildings, and commercial spaces we have worked inside all of them across the Bronx. We know what aging plumbing looks like in a 1950s Norwood row house, what an Art Deco Grand Concourse building needs behind its walls, and what a proper multi-family renovation requires to keep an income property running during construction.
02
For Bronx property owners who rely on rental income, renovation scheduling matters as much as renovation quality. We plan multi-family projects to keep occupied units livable during construction, wherever possible, sequencing work by unit and coordinating around tenant schedules when required.
03
Structural, plumbing, electrical, tiling, carpentry, painting, one team, one contract, one accountability chain. Bronx property owners should not be coordinating between separate contractors for a single renovation project. We manage the full scope, so you do not have to.
04
All applicable renovation work is done under proper NYC DOB permits. We file, coordinate inspections, and close permits at project completion. This protects your investment and your property’s legal standing, critical for multi-family owners whose properties are subject to DOB compliance oversight.
05
Bronx properties, particularly pre-war and mid-century buildings, regularly reveal conditions during demolition that were not visible on first inspection. We assess properties thoroughly before scoping, tell you what we expect to find, and handle discovery conditions with a clear explanation and an agreed response, not a change order that appears out of nowhere.
Our Borough Focus
We work across all of the Bronx. Below are areas where we have active project history:

Request a free estimate and we will schedule an on-site consultation, assess your property’s actual conditions, and give you a clear scope and price before you commit to anything.
Have questions? We’ve answered some of the most common ones.
Yes, for the most significant work. NYC DOB permits are required for structural changes, plumbing modifications, electrical upgrades, HVAC work, and basement conversions in the Bronx, exactly as in every other NYC borough. Cosmetic work, painting, flooring, and cabinet replacement without plumbing changes generally do not require a permit. Multi Construction Co. handles all permit filing and DOB inspection coordination as part of our project scope.
Kitchen renovations in the Bronx typically range from $20,000 to $65,000, depending on scope and materials. Bathroom renovations range from $12,000 to $35,000. Full unit renovations in a multi-family Bronx property typically fall between $50,000 and $120,000, depending on size and what systems need upgrading. We provide detailed line-item estimates before any contract is signed.
Yes, and this is one of the more common scenarios we manage in the Bronx. We sequence renovation work to isolate the active construction zone from occupied units containing dust, noise, and utility interruptions as much as possible. Water shutoffs are scheduled in advance and kept as brief as the work allows. We assess the specific layout of your property during the initial consultation and give you a realistic picture of what tenant impact looks like before work starts.
In most Bronx homes built before 1970, yes. Galvanized steel pipes corrode from the inside and restrict water pressure or fail. Adding modern fixtures to a deteriorated system creates problems shortly after project completion. Older electrical panels are similarly undersized for modern kitchen loads. We identify both during our pre-project assessment and include necessary upgrades in the scope rather than leaving them to surface as problems after the renovation is complete.
Yes. Pre-war buildings along the Grand Concourse and in older Bronx neighborhoods require specific renovation expertise, asbestos assessment before demolition, systematic plumbing and electrical replacement, plaster demolition and drywall installation, and careful management of common building systems. We have the experience and the process for this work.
Yes. Multi Construction Co. is fully licensed and insured to perform renovation work across all five New York City boroughs, including the Bronx. We carry general liability insurance and workers’ compensation on all projects.
